HMS Proteus operated in the eastern Mediterranean in 1941 and pioneered the use of radar on submarines.

Making use of radar for the first time in submarine warfare HMS Proteus had successfully torpedoed the steamship Tampico east of the Greek island of Andros on 3rd November 1941. The Tampico survived with the aid of her escort ships.
