Stalingrad - the winter arrives
6th November 1942: For a time the Red Army faces a new problem - as resupply across the Volga becomes more difficult
The Germans had captured nine tenths of the city of Stalingrad but their repeated assaults on the last section kept failing. The Russian knew that they had to cling onto the last sliver of land on the west bank of the Volga at any cost. Behind them lay the mile and a half wide river.
