19th July 1942: The Scots Guards come under intense fire in the difficult terrain of the El Taqa Plateau, El Alamein

A New Zealand machine gun post in a rocky part of the Allied positions in the Alamein area.

The British positions were consolidating around El Alamein but there were episodes of fierce fighting as both sides probed each other’s lines.
