Churchill wore a scarlet academic robe to receive his Honorary Doctorate at Harvard University.
After his address to invited guests in the Theatre, he made an impromptu four-minute ‘pep talk’ to assembled officers-in-training.

On 6th September Churchill was invited to Harvard University to receive an Honorary Doctorate. He decided it was "an occasion for a public declaration to the world of Anglo-American unity and amity".
