Dive bombing tactics over Tobruk
25th April 1941: A Stukagruppe commander insists that accompanying Italian Stuka pilots conform to established Luftwaffe tactics
Helmut Mahlke was a veteran of Luftwaffe dive bombing campaigns in France, over the English Channel and against Malta. Now the target was the fortress of Tobruk in North Africa. Tobruk was an obstacle to any further advance towards Egypt by Rommel, and repeated intensive bombardment was the order of the day.
