Holland House, Kensington, London, famous as an example of Jacobean domestic architecture, was built in 1607 by Sir Walter Cope, Gentleman of the Bedchamber to the King, James 1st. The majority of the house's treasures were removed to safety at the outbreak of the war. But a number of valuable books were destroyed in the bombing.
