By the 14th May the Germans had built a pontoon bridge across the Meuse, allowing the panzers to catch up with the spearhead. 1st Panzer Division crossing a pontoon bridge on the Meuse near Sedan, 14th May 1940, as prisoners are escorted to the German rear.

On the 13th May, Hermann Balck had personally led his men across the Meuse River at Sedan.
